A Morning Coffee Tip

Share

Ok, so it’s pretty common around here to NOT see me post on food and things like that.
I leave that up to my fabulous sister and her yummy looking food blog –
Once a Mom Always a Cook

However, since we have moved to Wisconsin I have been cooking quite a bit more. Out to eat isn’t as convenient and well, I have found some pleasure in it lately. I actually enjoy it – odd since the main reason I don’t enjoy cooking is because I pretty much loathe cleaning up afterwards, and I DO NOT HAVE A DISHWASHER! I know, I know.. how do I survive? Want to hear to craziest thing? I actually prefer not having a dishwasher. Yup, about a million women just rolled over in their graves.
I think it actually takes me less time to wash a few dishes after each meal and put them away when they are dry than to rinse, load, and unload the dishwasher.
Maybe I have officially lost it? : )

Ok, back on topic.

coffee tip

Have you ever woken up in the morning, completed a task and thought

Wow… I am a living Genius!

It doesn’t happen often, ok… maybe this was the first time — maybe it was because I just really wanted my coffee.

I woke up this morning… like usual the kids already full of energy and I’m just looking to get my morning coffee so I can see straight.

Then this happens….

coffee fail

-aka- The end of the world… at least my morning world!
I HATE coffee grinds but I did not want to dump it out and start all over.
So I’m looking through my kitchen trying to find a way to strain it… uhhh.. DUH!
Use a coffee filter.

So you just put the coffee filter over the top of your cup and fold over the edges

Coffee filter strainer

Then pour it in the coffee filter and let it strain into your cup… no more grinds.

Genius… I know! ; )

Now that I am done, there is a good chance most of you are laughing hysterically at me for this completely ridiculous post, what can I say… I NEED my coffee and it made me happy!

Ugh, I hate cleaning up after cooking too. Luckily the hubs and I have a deal where if I cook, he does dishes, and vice versa.

One little thing that makes me really happy is vacuuming the one rug we have in our apartment. We have hardwood floors and one 8×10 rug, and having that one rug vacuumed makes the whole apartment look SOOOO clean! It's such a simple way to make the apartment look that much cleaner without actually cleaning :-)

Ohhhh this is genius! Just a shame that my darling children smashed the jug to my coffee maker, sob!

I don't have a dishwasher either, I broke the door off last year, and I prefer life without it, it definitely seems quicker just washing up byb hand.

  4. It's amazing how my brain doesn't work in the morning…I probably would've dumped the pot and started over! Great idea! I stopped by from Wow Me Wednesday – I'd love to have you stop by and link up at my link party this weekend at http://www.thecreativepaige.com!

  5. been there done that. I just rerun the coffee using a clean filter no grinds this way my pot of coffee is grind free and I don't have to do it one cup at a time. love your idea for single cups of coffee

Ashley, here's a little coffee tip for you, get a bunn! I can't live without one.
Actually if you look in the coffee isle at the grocery store they sell coffee filter baskets. Oh, here, here's a link to Amazon, where you can get one for a penny. Hope this helps. http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Coffee-GTF2-1-Basket-Style-Permanent/dp/B0000CFQJS/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1335989215&sr=1-1

I can't BELIEVE how many pots of coffee I have dumped without knowing this!

Seems like such a no-brainer, but hey, lack of coffee can be blamed for not having the foresight to know this ;)

SO doing this next time!!!! You have saved me. Thank you.

Oh my gosh what an awesome idea! I do this all of the time, my husband just laughs at me because he never has had it happen to him. He can be such a show off sometimes…. :)

  9. Bonnie and Trish @ Uncommon says:

Oh my goodness… I did this three days in a row when I started my first job! I am sure that they were wondering how I ever got through college! I have no idea why they took me off coffee duty! Smart fix with the filter over the mug… would not have thought of that!

    Take care,

    Trish

Hi found your link up via Audra's blog. What day do you usually start link up? Would love to drop by & participate again. I will add your button & follow. Thanks for hosting. I am over at DearCreatives.com

  11. This always used to happen to me, I learned to let the coffee settle then pour real slow! Wish I would’ve thought of this! Now I have a Keurig so this shouldn’t be a problem. Smart thinkin ;)

[...] Coffee has to be one of the first things I think about in the morning… right after how lucky I am to have the most wonderful family ever! My sister and I quite often joke about how we couldn’t make it through the day without at LEAST two cups, I know addictions are bad but what can I say… I.AM.ADDICTED.TO.COFFEE I’m so addicted I have found a way to save the coffee when the grinds end up in your coffee!
