Did you know that fleece is a big deal where it’s cold?
Probably… but I didn’t. I have lived in Texas for the vast majority of my life and well… we avoid things that “don’t breathe” haha!
Since it’s getting cooler here in Wisconsin, and it’s already kinda hard to make things for boys, I thought a Fleece Scarf would be perfect for my little man!
Little Boy Fleece Scarf
Yes, this scarf has “secret pockets” ….Although my son likes the pockets to show…. I guess he will be the kid who can’t keep a secret, hehe!
Above is how I imagined he would use – it in all it’s secret glory!
You know how kids love pockets though… they are always looking for little places to hide the world’s smallest toys – aka LEGOS!
So I figured I’d give him a fun little place, secret or not. He also puts all his legos in his travel lego box when he can’t find a place in his clothes.
This seriously has to be one of the easiest scarfs ever. Super easy to change the size and everything, gotta love easy right?
{Supplies}
-1/2 yard of fleece
-Scrap fabric for pockets
-and all your sewing needs
{Tutorial}
First thing you do is cut your fleece. To make this scarf I cut mine
33″ x 9″ and folded in half. If you want yours longer or wider just make that adjustment.
Once it’s cut, fold it right sides together and sew one short side, and down the long side.
Turn your tube right side out and fold in your unfinished edges on the short side and top stitch closed.
Now we are going to make the {secret pockets}
Just measure some fabric out the depth that you want (I made each of mine different) and make sure when you fold over your raw edges it’s the right width (the width of the scarf itself)
So you will fold over all four edges and press.
Then we will stitch across the edge that will be the top of the pocket. I added some zig zag stitches for a little decorative touch.
Now just place your pockets where you want them and top stitch all the way around the edge of the scarf catching your pockets on the sides.
The come back and stitch across the bottom of your pocket.
That’s it, you are done!
Super easy right?
Now I need to make some pink ones for Addison!
While I was stitching around the edge of the whole scarf, I added a few zig zags here and there just for fun : )
Do your kids love hiding toys in their clothes? For some reason that’s the thing to do around here!

Fleece scarves are a must in cold temps. Im in NW PA and I cant survive a winter without one! Im actually giving away a scarf @ Planned in Pencil right now. Unfortunately it has no awesome secret pockets, but you’d still be more than welcome to sign up!

haha.. we’ll see how long my son actually wears it. I can’t keep socks on that boy either. It’s getting cold here though so hopefully he’ll learn, lol!

Oh I love this. I did folded up ends on a single layer of fleece for my nephew’s scarf for him to tuck his hands into walking to and from school (SC- so not too cold but scarf is nice to have for a walker). I like the fabric pockets as they won’t stretch as much…

I think this is great! My kids have such a long bus ride that they like to take their dsi along and I’m always worried someone is going to steal it out of their back pack BUT I bet no one would think to look in their scarf!!! I will just make it a little sturdier with velcro to hold something a little heavier. Thanks for the great idea!! Oh! and it might be a good place to keep gloves when they take them off too.

Hi! I’m from Texas and I totally get it. Fleece just seemed like the worst fabric choice here, but for a week or so of the year. I have family in IL and IN, so I can see how WI might cause you to reevaluate that! :) Looks cute – but being that we are staying in TX, I”m not making them this year unless H-e-double-hockey-sticks freezes over. :)
