There is a tiny bit of snow on the ground and it definitely feels like Christmas. I have been working hard to get my tree up as part of a 12 Days of Bloggers Christmas Tree Reveal Series, so I can’t show you my whole tree, but I am really excited about the Drop Cloth Christmas Tree Garland I made. So I snapped a picture of it before I started decorating the tree, and I’m going to tell you how I made it. It’s seriously the cheapest and easiest garland I have ever made!!
I didn’t take photos of the process, because it’s that easy! I promise.
Here’s all you will need:
Drop Cloth
Scissors
String of sorts
Christmas Tree Garland Tutorial:
So to make this I just simply took my drop cloth (I believe it was the 9×12 size, but I’m not certain) and cut them into 8″ wide strips going the length of the drop cloth. To do this you just cut a little slit and tear it all the way down and it tears strait for you. You will want to cut one slit right on the edge to make sure you are working with a straight edge… plus I wanted to remove the finished edge of the drop cloth. Once you have your strips cut I took some twine and gathered the strips and tied some string around to cinch it up. I did this about ever 12 inches. It just helps to give it shape.
Now you just have to add it to your tree. As far as how much you will need per tree, I’m not entirely sure. I made one strand at a time until I was happy with it. I also didn’t attach the end of the separate pieces together. I just kind of tucked them together in the tree itself, but you could sew or glue them together if you wish. I believe the rule of thumb is about 3 ft of garland for every vertical foot of tree. But I spread mine out pretty wide because I incorporated some other garland as well… this all comes down to styling. So use it however you wish ; )
I love using things around my house that I already have…it majorly helps cut down on the cost. you cant see it… but the back side of this drop cloth may or may not have some paint on it ; ) hehe… don’t tell my secrets though!
I can’t wait to finally show you my finished Christmas Tree. It is definitely my favorite to date!!
