Hi Everyone!! I am so excited to kick off the Cherished Home Tours with CountryLiving.com this year!
I’m also linking up our Christmas Home Tour at Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk Link Party, where you can browse through tons of beautiful Christmas Homes!
Christmas is such a beautiful time of year and one of my favorite seasons to decorate for! I love incorporating natural elements and lots of green (with a few pops of red) because it just feels so earthy and organic. After you are done taking a stroll through our home, be sure and continue on through the other bloggers today and check back every day this week for a total of 27 Christmas Homes! I just know you will love each and every one of them. You can follow the links at the bottom of the post to continue on through the tour! The next stop will be my sweet friend from Maison de Pax!
Now grab a cup of coffee and you are welcome to come on in : )
Cozy Christmas Home Tour
Our living room is always a struggle for me. It might look normal in pictures, but the spacing is weird with the windows and where things make sense. I decided to change the layout for Christmas. Normally I keep my couches against the wall to give my kids more space, but I’ve determined all that does is give them more floor space to make a mess. With this set up it makes for much better conversation and provides the coziness I was really striving for this year! I’m really enjoying it so far and fairly certain it will stay this way, at least for a little while!
This year I’m doing a “behind the scenes tour” to give you a better idea of what my house looks like both while I’m photographing it and let you see all the things I have to change in order for us to live our every day lives here. The books in the TV stand are something I have been wanting to do, but in all reality that’s where our dvd player is and it can’t be covered by books, but next week I’ll share with you how I hid it as much as possible!
My living room has been a work in progress over the last year. It’s still not quite where I’ve envisioned, but we are taking baby steps with each new project. I painted our blue dresser gray, but it’s still not what I want back in that corner. But for now it’s a part of our home and has been all decked out for Christmas nestled in the back corner with a snowy village and some cedar garland (my favorite!).
I’m not sure about you, but I think every morning in December should start off with muffins and coffee, but that’s just my opinion ; )!
Over on the other side of my living room is our piano, which is quite possibly one of the most fun spots to decorate in our house. It kind of serves as our mantel since we lack a fireplace!
This year I really wanted to play with little pops of bright red for Christmas. I admit color isn’t my strong point, but you really can’t go wrong with red at Christmas. It just has that classic beauty to it!
I used our drop cloth stockings for the third time this year because they work so perfectly for us, but I always enjoy changing up the decorations on them a little each time. This year I went with some fake berries and then added a little sprig of real cedar that I stole from my neighbors tree… shhh! Don’t tell! : )
However our new deer head did make an appearance on the piano. Isn’t he cute?! I kept trying to do something with our little paper mache guy, but I was repeatedly drawn to the brown paper that he already was so I let him be!
Off to the side, you MIGHT recognize my little entryway from the December Issues of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, eeeeeek! I’m soo excited, I still can’t believe this little space in our home is in one of my favorite magazines!! Such a surreal experience!
This year I also decided to have two Christmas trees. I’ve always wanted a flocked tree, and this one from Hayneedle was absolutely perfect. I didn’t want this tree to be a big deal, just a simple cozy little tree tucked in the corner.
Next up is our kitchen and dining area, which is also the most used space in the house (of course)! When you walk straight in our front door you are greeted by our Industrial Farmhouse Christmas Tree, which I had a blast decorating this year. It’s so me! It includes wood tones, chalkboard, and galvanized metal… does it really need anything else? : )
Our bookshelf got a Christmas makeover of it’s own and this is where my Joy Sign has taken place this year!
Eventually this shelf will serve as extra storage for some of my props and “nicer” dishes that don’t get used too often, but until I finish up that project it sure is fun to decorate!
Another one of those things I will share in my behind the scenes tour is that my dining room table does NOT stay like this. In case you weren’t aware, I have 3 kids and well… I had to leave it here for two days to photograph everything and I almost lost 4 plates. Finding balance of pretty and kid friendly can be challenging sometimes, but I’ll be sharing a tablescape in a few weeks that has made the cut : )
And last but certainly not least, the kitchen.
I don’t think I’ve shared this little spot with you yet, maybe a few little peeks on instagram, but we recently hung this mason jar drying rack where my white shelves used to be. We love drinking out of mason jars around here so having them stored and serve as decoration simultaneously has really worked out well for us!
The kitchen is probably the biggest transformation from what you see here and what it looks like on a daily basis. Guys! I have three kids, my kitchen NEVER looks this clean! There is always something going on in here. Maybe if everyone left for 3 days it could hold this look for about 5 minutes, but seriously…I had to bribe people to stay out while I was photographing it. It’s like they couldn’t wait to put a plastic cup on the counter or rub their dirty little hands on the white cabinets, haha! But wouldn’t it be nice if it always sparkled like this! mmmm… a mother’s fantasy, lol!
Well I think that does it for this year’s Christmas Tour! I’ll certainly be sharing some of my projects over the next few weeks and I hope you enjoyed your time here!
And don’t forget to come back each day this week for a total of 27 home tours! Have a beautiful day everyone!!
*A bit thank you to Hayneedle for providing some of the beautiful Christmas home decor!
