Welcome back Cherished Bliss readers, today I am sharing my family’s favorite homemade pizza sauce recipe! Pizza night is a weekly tradition at our house and it is something everyone looks forward to! I love pizza night because everyone is able to let their creativity flow through a variety of toppings. You might be surprised what the kiddos and your husband will try when they are in control. Yet, every pizza creation begins with great pizza dough and a delicious sauce recipe, so tie your aprons strings and let’s get cooking!
First we are going to start with the basic ingredients to a tasty pizza sauce recipe. Below you will find that I use black pepper, kosher salt, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, local honey, and a good quality grated Parmesan cheese. The fun thing about making pizza sauce is making it your own. For example, instead of using garlic powder, try using fresh minced garlic cloves or using fresh herbs. When my herb garden is abundantly growing I will always sub fresh herbs over dried herbs. Just in case you are wondering the ratio you use from dried herbs to fresh herbs is 1 to 3. For example if a recipe calls for 1 tsp of dried basil and you want to use fresh basil, then you would increase the fresh basil to 1 TBSP. As you can see from the picture below, the one ingredient that is missing is onion powder. I leave onion powder out of our pizza sauce because my daughter is on a low tyramine diet, but feel free to add onion powder or fresh minced onions to your pizza sauce.
I hope you enjoy this yummy pizza sauce next time you have pizza night!
