This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Frigidaire and Lowe’s. All opinions are 100% my own!
Today is the day I get to reveal why I have been a busy bee behind the scenes. As many of you know, last summer I did some updates to our kitchen by painting our cabinets, transforming our doors to a shaker style, and a few other things. You might remember me complaining about that awful cabinet next to my stove. I absolutely hated it. Food splattered on it, my pans wouldn’t fit right on the stove, it was awful. Our new Frigidaire Professional appliances sparked a little DIY to further transform my kitchen to give me the end result I have been waiting for! Cooking has been tremendously more enjoyable and I can’t wait to show you our new Industrial Farmhouse Kitchen.
The three main items on my agenda before having our beautiful new appliances installed by Lowe’s was ripping out that awkward cabinet shooting out from the wall and replacing it with an island, installing new flooring, and converting our tall cabinet next to the stove to an open space with a countertop .
The back door opened right in to that row of cabinets making it difficult to work around, especially in the winter. Removing this meant replacing the flooring, which meant NO MORE CARPET in my dining room. (Seriously, 3 kids and a dog = carpet nightmare. Spilled milk anyone?) We decided to go with the Allen + Roth Toasted Chestnut. When this floor was installed I had literally just gotten a new puppy about 4 days previously. I was a little concerned how the flooring would hold up, but even with three kids, a new puppy, moving stuff all over the floor, having appliances installed, and just general wear and tear I haven’t seen a single scratch yet. They also don’t show much dirt and grime. Our puppy has tracked it in, and I know the floors are dirty, but they still look fantastic. That’s a total mom win right there!
When we chose to rip out the flooring, it was the perfect opportunity for me to do something about those cabinets!
I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning, the before pictures. As in before last summer.
YIKES! Not so pretty. But that’s what a foreclosure will get you! But remember, I did a bit of a kitchen remodel last summer and got to this.
It wasn’t the worst space ever, I had actually learned to make it work, but there were some frustrating aspects that I felt like should be up to par with my new Frigidaire Professional appliances.
By far the most exciting thing for me with this renovation is having a gas range installed. There’s nothing wrong with electric, but I was spoiled – our first house was gas. I LOVE cooking on gas, and this Frigidaire Professional Freestanding Convection Gas Range has brought back the joy of cooking! It’s just something about gas that does it for me.
We had this range installed the weekend we had family visit and it was a dream. The PowerPlus burner allowed for quick boiling, and with hungry people everywhere it was a life-saver!
A few other key features are the PowerPlus Temperature Probe which helps take the guess-work out of roasting by monitoring the internal temperature throughout the cooking process, the PowerPlus Convection in the oven. I’ve never used convection before, but it allows you to evenly cook multiple dishes giving you those consistent results everyone hopes for! I’m thinking this will be my new best friend at Thanksgiving when I’m trying to bake as much food as possible!
One of my favorite features about the appliance collection overall is that it offers that industrial/restaurant feel that I love so much, but all the appliances are a standard size, so ripping out cabinets and changing my kitchen’s footprint wasn’t necessary! I did technically cut a cabinet in half, but only because it was ugly, not because it wouldn’t fit. After I got everything checked off my to-do list, we had Lowe’s deliver and install everything for us. Normally we do that kind of thing ourselves, but it was great to have the nice guys at Lowe’s set it all up and leave me more time for cooking and decorating.
Our Frigidaire Professional Over-the-Range Microwave is an exciting addition since it is a 2-in-1 Convection Oven or Microwave. It has been fantastic for when you just want to pop in some garlic bread. No more toaster oven on the counter! Complete space saver!
The dishwasher! Oh this dishwasher! I can’t express to you how amazing the 30-minute wash cycle on our Frigidaire Professional Dishwasher is for this mama! With a family of 5 the dishes pile up. Sometimes I just want so badly to wash the dishes and put them away before going to bed but I often forget to start it or the cycle hasn’t completed. This 30-minute cycle is a huge time saver! And did I mention how awesome it dries? Our last few dishwashers never seemed to fully dry our dishes no matter how I loaded it. This dishwasher gets them dry even when I pack it full!
Another huge upgrade for us was the Frigidaire Professional French Door Refrigerator. We officially have water and ice readily available. No more sending my husband to the gas station for ice. I think this might be his favorite part of the kitchen makeover!
So obviously a lot of my experience is with kids, and for some reason it’s like my kids have a mental block when it comes to shutting the refrigerator door. Why? Nobody knows! But one of my favorite features is the alarm that goes off when a door is left open!
The shelving in this fridge is capable of being arranged in so many different ways. There are flip up shelves, shelves that slide out of your way for extra space, and 3 drawers. It really makes everything so accessible. That, combined with the air and water filtration systems, this fridge is sheer perfection.
All the appliances in the Frigidaire Professional line are Smudge-Proof and if your kids sticky little fingers do manage to get a smudge on there, it wipes off with just a damp cloth leaving all those water spots on the rag and not your fridge! This line is very child friendly for stainless steel!
I will be sharing a few tutorials over the next week sharing how I built our new island and cut a cabinet in half. I’ve also got some pretty delicious recipes I’ve been cooking on our new gas range! Prepare yourself for some delicious meals!

Hi Ashley,
Your kitchen looks amazing! I just was just wondering. How much roughly do you think it cost to do this renovation minus the appliances? So the paint, cabinets, tile, flooring, etc?
WOW!!! I am in awe. In the process of buying and old ranch and our kitchen looks very similar to your before pic. I thought we would have to completely gut it, but this give me hope! Nicely done- wonderful taste!
Hi! What color/brand paint did you use for your kitchen cabinets? Everything looks great!! Thanks, KG
I love everything in this kitchen and it looks absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures!
Beautiful kitchen! How have the Allen Roth floors held up over the last three years to kids, dog, moisture?
Unfortunately we don’t live in that house anymore so I can’t attest to how they have held up over the years. We did go through a Wisconsin winter with them though and never had any issues with water coming in from the snow, and in the time we had them my 70lbs dog never once scratched them. Overall I was extremely happy with them, but I wish I knew how they were still doing!
What size is that Island?
Hi Heather, We built ours at about 48 1/2″ Wide, 34.5″ tall (this includes the cabinet and the legs, NOT the countertop). Our butcher block countertops were 1.5″ thick, to make the total height at 36″ which is standard height to match other countertops. And the cabinet is about 23.5″ plus the thickness of our doors (I don’t remember exactly how thick those were because we repurposed old doors from our kitchen). Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Woah! Ӏ’m really digging the template/theme οf this blog.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’ѕ very
hard to get tһat “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual apрearance.
I must say you’ve done а excellent job ᴡith this.
In addition, the blog loads very fast for me on Firefox.
Exceptional Blog!
This looks like my kitchen I plan on using your blog absolutely love your redo hope mine goes as well
We recently had an unexpected situation, our oven broke down and we needed to repair the oven, we had to move the furniture and in the process we broke the cabinet that I didn’t like as much as in your story and now we have a renovated oven and a new cabinet that I really like. This once again confirms that you need to look for positivity and opportunity in everything.
