In Wisconsin the Summer is a very special time. You can go outside without spending 30 minutes of prep time just to get your kids out the door. You can take your shoes off and touch the grass with your bare feet. Basically we spend as much time outside as possible, this includes all of our eating times. We eat lunch outside a good bit of the time, and we try and grill as much as possible! When you use your grill as much as we do, well it starts to get a little dirty. Let’s face it, with 3 kids we are lucky to get through a meal, much less make sure the grill is sparkling when we are done. SO, our grill works pretty hard to keep up with us!
As the temperatures continue to drop we will use it less and less, so right before school starts I like to give it a good scrubbing! Normally this involves a lot of elbow grease – but not this year! This year I have a much easier and less strenuous way to get your grill back to a functioning state! My secret weapon? Tide OXI Multi Purpose Cleaner baby! This stuff is just plain awesome. Oh, and it smells great too!!
So let’s take a look at how my grill looked before…..
Yup, pretty gross and nobody wants to cook on that right?? Definitely not! So what is a girl to do?
Why head to my all time favorite store that I am at more than the grocery store… The Home Depot. Yes, I am literally there more times a week than the grocery store. My poor kids, it’s ok they are picky eaters anyway, I don’t think they mind ; )
Here’s what you will need:
– A 5 Gallon Bucket (optional) or other container for soaking purposes
– Tide Oxi Multi-Purpose Stain Remover
– Grill Brush
How to Clean Your BBQ Grill
****Please note: If you use this anywhere that food will touch PLEASE PLEASE rinse it thoroughly off! While Tide OXI works great on stains and cleaning, it might not be so well on your digestive track. Just sayin ; )
First mix up your water and Tide OXI based on the manufacturer’s directions in your 5 gallon bucket, then you are going to take your grill pieces off and put them right in there to soak.
Let them sit for about 5 minutes or so. Take this time to wipe down the rest of your grill with the Tide OXI. It does great on all the surfaces of the grill! After it has soaked, I used my grill cleaning brush to give it a good scrub while it was still in the bucket. Here you will see what it looked like with just a light scrubbing. I did this while it was still under water and couldn’t really see what I was scrubbing. Rinse off all the soap so you can see the areas you need to focus on for any remaining grossness : )
Already a huge difference right? This stuff practically just wiped off after soaking. I’ve heard of some people using oven cleaners for grills, but the smell of that is just SO STRONG. This smells clean and fresh! Once you have them scrubbed up, take an old rag and work on the spots that the brush had a hard time reaching.
Rinse THOROUGHLY! Remember… it might not taste good as a rub on your steak ; )
BAM! Look at this grill now!
My grill is in pretty bad condition, but the change was TREMENDOUS! Like it is seriously way cleaner and it was so easy to do! Remember how I said you could take that soak time to wipe off the rest of the grill. It does wonders : ) Take a look at the full before and after. Pay special attention to the silver part by the knobs and the front of the grill itself. Much better right?
Tide OXI Multi-Purpose Stain Remover has over 225 uses! I have been using this stuff all over my house. I have carpet in my dining room (not my choice.. it was here when we bought the house) and well… I have 3 kids. Enough said! But it has gotten old stains out of my carpet, I have used it to get stains out of laundry, and since the smell is fabulous I washed my pillows in it. FANTASTIC! The uses are endless!! So my new answer to everything – #TideThat Are you going to head out and clean your BBQ Grill now? You won’t be sorry!
What would you Tide with the new Tide OXI Multi Purpose Cleaner??
Great post Ashley! I would have never thought to use oxi clean on my BBQ but what a great idea!
Anna :)
Thanks Anna! This stuff is my new best friend! It is great on carpet stains too!
I need to do the same exact thing! We use our grill so much and it is really bad right now! Thanks for the inspiration!
Ours was awful! Like I would have been embarrassed for someone to open that thing!
Our grill looks pretty rough to and I would never have thought to use something like this! Great tip!
Thanks Megan! It certainly helps make it much easier! I’ve been using this stuff like crazy!
wow…I had no idea…that’s super awesome…thanks for the tips…:)
Thanks Lucy! It definitely makes it go much faster and easier! : )
You read my mind. I use my grill all the time and all year long (in Texas we don’t have many “winter” days). I was just saying its time to clean the grill again which I hate to do because it takes so much time and elbow grease. Can’t wait to try your method. Anything that cuts down my scrubbing time works in my favor. Thanks for the great post!!
yes, in Texas you can use your grill year round : ) It definitely helps with the elbow grease! I did still have to scrub some of the really bad spots, but overall it was WAY easier! Thanks for always stopping by!! : )
Giving it a go now Ashley! I’ll let you know how it pans out;)
I think you meant “digestive tract.” Not “track.” Just came here from Pinterest and I’ll be going elsewhere, because I’m not sure I trust this since you don’t know the difference.
This seems like too much work and I don’t have much time for this. Can I just use a steam cleaning machine or something like that?

Very informative and useful post, as usual. Although if someone is starting and they are confused, I strongly recommend to hire some professionals.
Great Article!
Amazing thank you for sharing
Fantastic beat! The account helped me a applicable deal.
I were tiny bit familiar of this your broadcast offered bright transparent concept.
Amazing article. Our top tip for cleaning BBQ is by using onions. Simply attach half an onion to a fork and rub over the hot bars. The onion’s juices will release and remove any bits charred on debris. For more tips, check out: https://www.tidychoice.com/blog/
I prefer to swim in my beautiful pool on a hot summer day. But I’ve already faced difficulties, my pool cleaner has broken down, if anyone can advise a good cleaner, I’d love to.
I do understand your desire to clean your pool. My colleague also made a large swimming pool, but then began to complain that there was a lot to clean there. I came across this site where there is E10 by Maytronics and, in general, for the swimming polls and yards. I shared with her this site and she gave me the review about it and she was glad to have had this tool.
I tried using lava stone instead of coal and truly lava stones are not that messy at all so it’s easier to clean.
