I haven’t done a true craft project in a while, but this month Plaid Crafts is releasing a new product, FolkArt ® Glitterific™ Acrylic Paint. Obviously I had to give it a shot and make something fun for my little glitter loving girl. Admittedly I’m not a huge glitter person. I like muted natural tones, but my daughter is total opposite and loves all the colors of the rainbows, especially if it’s a glitter colored rainbow, haha!! So today’s project is inspired by my gorgeous little girl. It’s a little bit for Valentine’s Day, but could easily be worn all year long!
Let’s talk about this new paint for a second though! Glitterific paint comes in multiple size glitter particles that are suspended in a crystal clear base to create the most dazzling glitter paint available today! It provides mesmerizing, glittery coverage for use on wood, metal, glass, canvas, paper, decorative fabrics, and rigid plastic. It’s available as Ultra high-gloss in 21 different colors all packaged beautifully in a 2 oz. bottle. All the Glitterific Paints are water-based and made in the USA! Let’s make a Glitter Heart Necklace!
Supplies:
- Wooden Hearts
- FolkArt ® Glitterific™ Acrylic Paint
- FolkArt ® Brushed Metal™ Acrylic Paint – Rose Gold
- Small Taklon Paintbrush
- Gold Necklace Chain (mine is 5.5mm)
- Craft and Jewelry Tool Kit
- Gold Jump Rings
How to Make a DIY Glitter Heart Necklace
Step 1. Paint the Hearts
Apply one coat of the Brushed Metal Acrylic Paint in Rose Gold to the wooden heart and let dry. Paint the other side and let dry as well.
Step 2. Apply Glitterific Paint
Apply the Glitterific paint to the wooden heart and let dry. You may apply multiple coats to achieve a more glittered affect. When applying the Glitterific paint, don’t try and brush it like you would a typical paint. It’s more like laying the paint in place and smoothing it out. It’s very thick, so just play around with it until you figure out the best application for you!
Step 3. Drill Holes
Once all the paint is dry, using a drill and 1/16″ drill bit, drill a hole through the top of the heart. You can place this wherever you prefer.
Step 4. Add Jump Rings and Chain
Add one gold jump ring to the hole you just drilled. This is how the chain will connect to the hearts. Using the round nose pliers open up the jump ring and insert through the hole on the heart.
Then after your necklace chain is cut to desired length (using the wire cutters) insert the last hoop of the chain onto the jump ring and squeeze it closed with the needle nose pliers.
Step 5. Style and Enjoy
Add a little sparkle to your life and wear your new Glitterific Necklace to any outfit of your choice!! This is perfect for both adults and children! All little girls love a little glitter! ; )

Glitter without the mess sounds amazing! I used some large glitter for photos a few days ago with the hope it would be easier to clean up than fine glitter. It was…but there’s still glitter everywhere.
