I can’t believe how long I have been out of the blog world.
First I had the flu in which I was in no condition to be on the computer (mainly because I was sleeping my pain away…haha)
Then it just seems like I had a billion things to do and just couldn’t find the time to sit down and blog. But because of my crazy schedule of trying to get things done, I have a few things to share with you!!
The first thing I got done was clean the threshold that goes to my garage. I live in an older house and well there are just certain things that are old and would like to replace. So I was asking my husband to PLLLEAASE replace the threshold because it was disgusting to look at and I hated it so much because it made my whole kitchen floor feel dirty! This is what it looked like.
Gross right? That’s how I felt… years and years of old paint and caulk that were just there to annoy me.
So in asking my husband he told me that ripping that out could mess up the tile and it wouldn’t line up right and we could chip the tile…yada yada yada. So I finally agreed that maybe it just wasn’t worth it… that I would at least try to do something with it before we possibly messed up the floor around it.
so I got a razor blade (one of those ones that is used for paint scraping) and started scraping away… it didn’t get it all off so I thought I would try scrubbing it with an SOS pad, which actually worked quite well!
Then I wiped all the blue stuff off from the sos pad and it looked alot better… I scraped some more and scrubbed some more and this is what it looks like now.
Now. if you notice that not only was my threshold gross before, but the tile around it was not exactly pretty. There is a reason for this.
5 Months after we bought our house.. our cute adorable little puppy pulled on the water hose and it broke the spicket next to our house. And of course these things are only allowed to happen when you are gone for the night (we left our dog outside and decided we would return home early in the morning) when we drove up water was pouring out of the garage. I was hoping hot water hearter….but now. water allllll over our house!!!
As a result we had to cut up our sheetrock and re texture and all that stuff. Since I was pregnant during all this in the morning sickness stage, I couldn’t stay in the house…so we hired it out and our contractors, although did an amazing job matching the texture and everything was great, they did NOT cover the floors while working…which I probably should have done, but didn’t even think about it. Needless to say there was sheetrock dust caked in all areas of the house, and my whole house is tile so pretty much all my grout was covered in sheetrock dust. I have not been able to get it cleaned since. And have you ever got a price quote on grout cleaning??? It’s like $.75-1.00 a square foot… so we figured it would be about the same to replace the tile ourselves! Which we planned to do…and here it is 5 years later and I look at this nasty tile every single day!
I tried EVERYTHING I could think of to get it cleaned. And I scrubbed every inch of the grout at least 3 times with different products trying to clean it. I even tried grout cleaner from lowes….don’t waste your money!!!
My friend told me to try grease lightening because it worked on her actual tiles so she suggested maybe it would work on my grout.
So with some of this greasted lightening household cleaner, a bristle cleaning brush, and some good old elbow grease here is the difference it made on my tile!!
Notice the one clean strip of grout?! It’s not perfect, but it certainly has made my kitchen feel so much cleaner and totally worth doing! It might not look brand new, but it looks like grout instead of nastiness!!!
I’m very happy with the results!!
Now. One last thing, I know this is a long post… I haven’t been on here in so long my mind is just turning faster than I can type!!
