Our house is pretty old. It’s filled with items reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s. The vinyl we just ripped out of our kitchen/dining area was just plain awful. I believe I described it to my husband as poop brown hexagons. I mean I love me some hexi’s but this was just plain scary! It might just haunt me in my dreams ;). One of the biggest things to me that changes the look of a space, other than hideous ugly flooring, is doors. We have the flat hollow core doors that just lack pretty much everything possible when it comes to design. Now, as much as I would love to install solid wood craftsman style doors, this isn’t our forever home and $150 bucks a pop just isn’t in the cards right now. So… I opted for a standard 6 panel door. Still not my favorite, but it’s an astronomical improvement from what we currently have!

I know some people hate the idea of mortising a hinge out, but I am here to show you that it isn’t all that bad. It’s actually way faster than ripping out a door jam, and did I mention it saves you money. Even after buying a few extra things you are going to save some serious cash, maybe not if you are just replacing one door, but if you are doing your whole house, yes… it saves tons!
Here is just a little example of what you can save. Of course there will be little extra costs like screws, but you might have this stuff on hand and this is just an overall idea of what you can save, you will need to research actual prices at your local store to get an accurate cost estimate! Amount of savings will vary!
Now that you have an idea of how much you can save, head over to Ryobi Nation for the full tutorial and start installing those doors!
