Every day I wake up I am so thankful for my sight! I’m thankful that I get to see my children’s smiling faces when they first awaken!
I used to not feel this way. I used to feel cursed and frustrated.
I have worn glasses since I was in the 3rd grade, but I probably needed them much sooner. Did you know that one in four children have an undetected vision problem? It’s not because their parents don’t love them, or that nobody cares! I can assure you I was well loved by my parents. My mom was known to bring us breakfast in bed (see… maybe I was even a little spoiled). But with a child it’s so hard to determine if they can’t see. I didn’t know any better. It was part of my everyday life. If someone would have asked me if I could see ok, my response would have been “absolutely”! While it didn’t affect my ability to learn to read, it did affect my school.
About twenty percent of children will have a hard time reading because of their vision. I struggled to read directions on the chalkboard. It left me to talk to my friends sitting next to me, asking them what everything said. I was a very good student, but in the beginning of 3rd grade I started getting in trouble for talking. Eventually my teacher recognized it and I had my first eye exam. There are 10 million students in America whose ability to learn is impacted by their vision! 1o million!! I will never forget my first pair of glasses and walking through school that first day. We had a huge brick wall that we would line up on each day and I remember finally being able to see the lines between the bricks! It was like stepping into a new world! I could all the sudden see leaves on trees. It’s something you will only ever understand if you go through it, but here is a picture that shows it the best way I can. But I promise, it was far more glorious than this old bird feeder!
This is why vision insurance is so important! By the age of 5 children should have had their eyes examined 3 times! And if you catch any problems your kids might have in their vision, you can correct it before it gets worse!
VSP® Vision Care is the largest not-for-profit company that offers vision benefits and services in the US. As a kid and teenager I struggled. I hated wearing glasses. I didn’t understand why I had to wear them so young. To me it felt like something you have to do as an adult, not a kid! But through time I met people with worse vision than me, some that were legally blind, and those that will never see the faces of their children! I am lucky! I am lucky to have glasses that allow me to be creative in my life, through this blog, and with my children! I have learned to be thankful for those moments where I feel frustrated and embrace the beautiful things that allow me to see so clearly!
Without my glasses I would miss my daughters ballet recital, my son’s soccer practice, and I would miss out on something I love to do, blog! I love being able to decorate my house and share it with so many others. I wouldn’t be able to cut the wood to build furniture or see the details I missed! My sight is a true blessing and something I am thankful for every day!!

We have VSP eye insurance and love it! They cover so much and helped us get both our girls vision straightened out last year. I had NO IDEA my youngest was mostly blind but her glasses have given her a new life and they have held up so well for a 6 year old! I’m so thankful for them and I like them even more now that I know they give back!!

I have worn glasses since 6th grade. I probably needed them sooner but it was never detected. I struggled in school because of it. 2 out of our 6 children have to wear glasses. Thank you so much for this information and I am certainly going to look into VSP Vision Care, I have a friend who can benefit from this.

I understand you perfectly, thanks for this good blog, I also love my children and understand how much health matters, that’s why I use this service https://essays.studymoose.com/fast-essays so that my children don’t sit in the screens very long to read the information needed to write this essay, I really like that it’s a ‘fast essays’ service and I haven’t had any problems with it, and the teachers are happy to get the essays written.
