Raise your hand if you love potty training!!
Wow, imagine that, nobody raised their hand. Umm… probably because potty training is probably better suited being called some kind of torture method for parents. I hate potty training. I hate it, hate it, hate it, but there is only one thing I hate more. Wiping poo of a kid who is clearly old enough to be putting it in the toilet. Yup, that is definitely worse! So let’s talk some potty training tips now that I can officially say I have two potty trained kiddos! Just in time to start diapering another ; )
My Top 5 Potty Training Tips
*please note – these things just worked for my kids, every kid is different and these might not work for you.
The GoodNites Bedtime underwear are great until you are ready to move on. These keep their beds dry
Then when you really feel like the accidents are down to a weekly basis instead of a daily thing, you can start working on night time training. You might also want to wait until your kid shows signs of being dry at least once or twice a week before starting, but some kids might never do that until you start a new routine. So it’s going to suck, but just put them in underwear while they sleep. Yes, this will mean waking up a lot in the middle of the night, but just think …. soon your kid will be potty trained COMPLETELY! Now I don’t want you changing sheets all the time so here is another great product for you to use at this stage:

That way, when your kid does have an accident, you just peel the bed mat away and clean up the kid instead of stripping down the whole bed. Now I know you are wondering… why would I do this to myself. The whole reason is that you have to teach your kids to wake up when they need to go. When they feel they are wet, they will learn to wake up and eventually they will wake up before they have an accident. This can take longer with each child.
With all that being said, this is kind of where I am at with potty training Addison. She is almost done I would say, we very rarely have nighttime accidents, but they do still happen, and I still hate cleaning it up in the middle of the night ; ) That part never goes away! So now, we just lay down our GoodNites Bedtime Mat instead of depending on the waterproof mattress cover. It even has these fantastic little sticky corners so that your kid doesn’t eventually kick it off, and it’s plenty big enough so that if your kids are like mine and roll around everywhere they still end up on the mat!
Once they are in place, they make very little noise and Addison didn’t even notice it.
Look how cute she is on it! : ) Pay no attention to the pajama choices… we are in an “I want to dress myself phase” : )
So now, when Addison wakes up in the middle of the night to tell me she’s wet, I just simple peel off the GoodNites Bed mat and replace it when a new one instead of changing a whole bed! We LOVE our new GoodNites Bedtime Mats! Since you will be doing more laundry during this whole process, I have a great homemade laundry detergent to help save on the cost, it’s super easy to make too!

Great list of tips! I have to say, one of my brothers didn’t get potty trained until 4 years old. He’s the smartest one of us all, too. My mom could have used these tips back then!

Thanks for the tips I really appreciate that. My baby is 2 and 3 quaters.. and she is driving me nuts. She actually asked me while she was on the potty the other day for her diaper so she can “pu pu” LOL. I could of had a heartattack… lol Thanks

Great tips! We are in the middle of things with my daughter. She did really well really young, but has never been consistent, especially when we’re out and about and on the road. Those bed mats look awesome. Honestly, I don’t think I’d ever even noticed them before, but the’d be perfect for my son who is just ready to transition away from pull-ups at night. I’m sure they save a LOT of laundry, plus help the kids be a part of the process. Seriously, I’m buying some next time I’m at the store.

Oh potty training is the worst! I wish they had these mats when my kids were potty training – that would have been so nice. Also one of my kids was a bed wetter until he was about 6/7 so having something would have been nice. I had plastic sheets on his bed and it was so noisy and a pain to wash.

Great tips, thank you for sharing them to us parents, especially to those who are new to this potty training. I hate potty training in the beginning but I became used to wiping my child clean because I’m a parent and I am responsible for taking good care of him and raising him properly. What worked for my son is the 3-day potty training method. The first day was the hardest for me as I monitored him for around 25 to 30 minutes and looked for signals that he’s about to pee or poo. I’m glad my son is transitioning well from using the potty trainer into toilet bowl equipped with potty seat.

When it comes to potty training, every child is different. Some children take to it quickly and easily, while others need a little more time. If you’re struggling with potty training your child, here are some tips that may help.
First of all, make sure that you’re prepared. You’ll need to have a potty or toilet seat that’s the right size for your child, as well as plenty of wipes and changes of clothes. It’s also a good idea to have some snacks and drinks on hand in case your child gets hungry or thirsty while they’re trying to use the potty.
Start by letting your child sit on the potty or toilet seat without anything else happening. This will help them get used to the feeling of being on the potty without anything else going on.
