Getting ready to have family or friends come for a visit? These 5 tips & 2 Mood Boards are sure to create a Welcoming Guest Room! This post is sponsored by Walmart, however all opinions are 100% my own!
Now that we have officially moved out of our house and are making plans for our next space we get to plan out a guest bedroom for when family comes to visit. It’s so great having a dedicated space for guests to sleep, even if it doubles as your kid’s bedroom. There are many ways to make a space multi-functional if you don’t have an extra bedroom lying around. No matter what space you have, creating a welcoming guest room doesn’t have to be difficult and Walmart makes it so easy with such a great selection of products! Their new Wow & Now Section is a great place to get started for your home needs at affordable prices!
Today I am sharing 2 separate design boards, one with a mid-century modern vibe, and one with a modern industrial feel. Both of these feel streamlined and clean to me which works great for when people come over. It allows them plenty of room to set their things up. Both of these designs would work great for a teenage boy’s room as well. And if you need your daughter’s room to act as a temporary guest bedroom you can throw in some pinks and softer decor items as well!
Let’s take a look at the two different design boars I created for you and then I’ll show you some simple updates we made to our daughter’s room in our rental. We did a few things to make it feel both like her space and a space guests will feel welcome. I’ll also share my top tips for making guests feel welcome!

How to Create a Welcoming Guest Room
We added a few things to our daughter’s room to make sure it’s ready for guests whenever they are able to visit. Let’s talk about some of my favorite ways to make guests feel welcome in our home!
Provide Cozy Bedding
Cozy bedding is an absolute must! When guests arrive after flying or drying, all they can think about is crawling into a clean, cozy bed. Some people are naturally colder than others so making sure to provide a variety of options for bedding is always a good idea. I like to make a guest bed with a thin quilt, a comforter or duvet, and a throw blanket.
Make Sure there is Space for Clothes
When guests come, especially if they are staying for more than one night, it’s nice for them to have a place to layout and organize their clothing. Having a section in the closet for hanging clothes is a bonus, but a dresser is a great option as well. If you don’t have space for a dresser you can always purchase a luggage rack to give them a place to set their suitcase without bending down to the floor to search through their belongings. This is especially important if you have elderly guests where accessing their suitcase might not be as simple as it is for a teenager.
Make a Basket of Necessities
There’s nothing worse than having to ask a host a ton of questions about where everything is. Sure, as the host we usually don’t mind, but as a guest I hate having to bother people. Plus you never know what people might need in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping. I like to provide a basket of fresh towels, an extra blanket, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, a toothbrush, and any other little essentials you can think of that somebody might need their first night in their guest room.
Make the Wifi Password Accessible
There are so many cute ways to give your guests the wifi password these days. I love the idea of a little picture frame on a nightstand. This one from Walmart is adorable! It’s always great after climbing into bed and look over and already know the password.
Set out Drinks and Snacks
There’s a reason they say food is the way to the heart. I don’t know anyone who would be mad about walking into a room and finding their favorite snacks waiting for them. You can even go as far as putting a Keurig in the room so your guests can have a cup of coffee if they are an early riser. This slim version is perfect for small spaces! It’s always nice to set out a few bottles of water as well.
There are so many other things you can do to create a welcoming guest room, but these are my top 5 favorite things to do. I am so excited to have a space ready for our in-laws to visit without completely rearranging our sleeping locations. Now my daughter can simply move out of her room for a few days and we have everything we need for overnight guests! Hopefully, soon we will have a whole room dedicated to this so we can be a blessing for those who visit!
