Everything has a story behind it right? Well this little table resulted in a conversation between my husband and I that resulted in me laying on the floor laughing hysterically and him confirming my insanity. He might have also confused me of secretly trying to paint the carpet white (it was an accident I promise)!!
But yes it’s true. I paint LOTS of things white, not everything though (look away from the curtains)! Lucky me I have my blog for proof! Quite often, I will have intentions of painting something a color and it still ends up white. One point for the hubs. Regardless of my love of all things white, it did turn out quite awesome though right?
Maybe you need to see how ugly it was….
Side Table Makeover
Ok, there is worse out there, but this was a $7 thrift store find. It was missing knobs and to be quite honest this picture makes it look way better than it actually did.
Why doesn’t it work like that for me…I always look way worse. At least I hope that’s the case ; )
I originally painted this a gray color in an attempt to not paint it white. I know… I really went super bold there huh? But it just wasn’t working for me, so I whipped out the Annie Sloan Old White, distressed it, and waxed it (with clear wax).
I don’t have a super detailed tutorial here because all it involves is painting, sanding the edges, and waxing. Yes. Super difficult stuff. You really can’t mess it up, I promise. Grab a paintbrush and get busy! : ) Then you get to have fun with the hardware.
I got these glass knobs at Hobby Lobby. They look aged, and were perfect for me. You know how I love things that are distressed just in case my kids wack it with something… that way it doesn’t put me in the shower crying over hundreds of dollars wasted!
Nobody wants a crying mama!
These knobs came with everything I needed to put them on and instantly improved the look of the side table! I brought it inside one day and my husband said:
“You just couldn’t do it could you? You HAD to paint it white”
Don’t get me wrong, he’s just playfully making fun of me… kind of like how I playfully make fun of him trading and buying and selling all these guitar pedals. I am not a musician but I know all about blues drivers and whatnot. So we would have to name his blog post “I can’t keep a pedal for more than 3 days”.
I digressed a little there… back to my awesome WHITE table. Here’s a little before and after for ya!
So what do you think? Do you like all things white or are you more of a bold color kind of person?
Ok.. now just to prove I use color…. sometimes…..

I love this table! It is adorable, sometimes it amazes me what people think is something worthy of getting rid of. How can they NOT see the potential in that table? I paint a lot white too, or a really light gray (almost white). But I also do pops of turquoise too. White is a nice neutral color. I adore this table!

Thank you Emily! It is crazy how just a few little changes can bring new life to something someone might call “ugly” Thanks for stopping by! : ) Have a great weekend!
I love the table!! It’s beautiful especially with the knobs. I’m a color person. My kitchen is red & turquoise with hints of yellow. This scheme flows into my living room with grays & blacks.
Okay, Ashley, that totally cracked me up! ;) I’m so not a bold person… yesterday I told my husband I’m going to spray paint the lamps. And he asks what color and I replied “white!” and he says “anything but white!!” lol! I love white and your table turned out fabulous!!! Love it so much! (would love to have you link up at our party too, if you have a chance). Have a fabulous week!
I knew there were more of us out there, lol! It’s just so hard to go wrong with white!! I am getting ready to head out of town again, but I will try and catch your next party! I’m so behind on linking up. So ready for school to start back up and get in a groove!
OMG I paint everything white too and my hubby is always bugging me. He even says ‘are you going to paint me white?’ Too funny. Love your blog!! Off to check it out more ;)
Hugs,
Jamie
Haha… my husband says the exact same thing! He’s just waiting for the carpet to get painted white. In my defense I have to talk about white paint a whole lot since all our ceilings were painted this awful peachy cream color. But it’s undeniable. I love white! And I’m totally in LOVE with your blog! I know I’ve seen it before, but with 3 kids I’m lucky to read my own blog posts before I publish, lol. #backtoschool #yay! : )
What a beautiful transformation. I LOVE those knobs. I didn’t know Hobby Lobby carried knobs. Good to know!
Thanks Laura! Yes, hobby lobby has a fantastic selection of knobs : )
Hi Ashley.
I’m in the process of turning everything, well almost everything white.
My question is do you use the same white color on everything?
In the living room I want all my brown furniture white. I have 3 coffee tables (I know those should all match each other) an entertainment shelf and a book shelf.
Do I use the same color on all of them? That’s the one thing that confuses me about having almost white. I’m bad with colors and when I look at pictures I really can’t tell if it’s all the same color.
Thank you
Mic
I plan to paint my stuff all white and grey too!!
So excited that i found your blog..
I’m a new fan :)
