Talking on the Porch

As a blogger it’s so easy to get caught up in pumping out tutorials and sometimes we forget to stop, take a breath, and just chat. I love you guys and all the fabulous comments you leave here. One of the most rewarding things in blogging is when I get an email from someone who finish a project that was inspired by one of my tutorials! I could look at those pictures all day! I really enjoy reading what other bloggers do with their spare time (cause we all have that right? HA) and what interests them. I love all those little details and how it helps shape the person behind the blog!

Porch.com contacted me about doing an interview so I thought this would be a fun opportunity to give you a little glimpse into what I do : ) I’ll share some of the interview here and to see the rest you’ll have to stop by Porch.com by clicking the link at the bottom of the post.


If your life were a song, what would it be?
I am the world’s worst at remembering song names. My husband is a musician so I leave that to him. I honestly LOVE big band/jazz music so I’d say that represents my life pretty well….. simplistically complex?

Pinterest for sure! I’m a sucker for pretty pictures! 
 
If your walls could only be painted one color for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?
Greige! I recently painted my walls a very warm gray color. I LOVE it. It goes with everything and always feels so fresh to me!

What are you exceptionally good at? (Permission to brag)
I like to think building furniture, cause we all know it’s not grammar, haha! As a woman people always look at me funny when I tell them I build furniture. Especially since my husband is more of a creative musician type who doesn’t necessarily enjoy working out in the garage. Don’t get me wrong, he helps all the time, but he would rather be playing music! My father taught me everything I know about building, and my mom loves to work with her hands! Building furniture is definitely my happy place. Being a mother and a wife is hard hard work, so there are days where it feels like building furniture is the only thing I can do right… you know, other than all those pieces of wood I measured wrong ; )

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve collected?
I’m not much of a collector. I feel like I change my mind too often for something like that. But my grandparents did give me a set of the US quarters that I still have! 
 
Show us your best project for a DIY beginner!
If you want to get your toes wet in the DIY world, I would start with a simple project where perfection isn’t a necessity. Some furniture if you are off an 1/8″ will throw you off, don’t start with that or you will just get frustrated and quit! Start with something like this DIY clock where each of the boards can be a little off. It gives you good practice at cutting wood and introduces you to some basic tools.  Plus when you build something simple it boosts your confidence and lets you see that you CAN do whatever you set your mind too. If you fail, try again! I’ve cut many a wrong boards!

What’s a home trend you hope doesn’t exist in 100 years?
Matching furniture. I know it sounds weird, but there is something I just don’t like when every single piece of furniture has the same finish, the same style, and the same lines. It took me a long time to be able to match stuff up while keeping it different, and honestly it’s probably still one of my biggest struggles! But I do love the diversity it brings to a room!

    Your blog is waiting. I’m not a blogger, I just often go to read the stories that other people share and want to find myself in that story, this helps me to be less stressed after tired working days.

    Lately I really like to slow down a bit, relax, just put on some nice music and walk around for a bit without rushing. In the modern rhythm of life, this is very important, otherwise you may not notice how every day flies by. By the way, I recently found an online service Fakaza to find and download different music from YouTube without using any third-party conversion services. This is a free service, but the quality of the music is excellent.
