Ok, I asked on my facebook page last night if you would rather see a new recipe or a house tour on the blog today. Everyone said House tour… so here it is! We are still in the process of moving in with boxes in the basement and stuff laying around, but these areas of the house have the fewest boxes left in them so I figured I’d start there : )
As I go through these pictures with you I’m going to tell you (and myself) everything I want to do to make this house our home! Some of it won’t get done for a while, and others I’m chomping at the bit to get done asap! So let’s just jump right in shall we?

When you walk in the front door, this is the room you see directly to your right, cute baby included! I’m not sure if I should call it the living room or family room. Technically living room’s don’t have tv’s (100 points if you can guess which show is on the tv). This room does. BUT we’ve never had 2 living areas so calling it anything different would just confuse the kids. I’m fairly certain this is supposed to be the “formal” room… but the other room wasn’t big enough for the tv. #firstworldproblems. Yes, those couches are hideously ugly. However.. it wasn’t for our super awesome friends who gave us these couches, we would have no furniture in this room. I plan on buying some slipcovers to make them look better. I love this one that I have pinned from The DIY Village. I also will be painting all this ugly trim white, and probably a light gray on the walls. This tan has kind of a pinkish color when the sun shines in a certain way. Not a fan at all! I’m also thinking plate wall in that corner and having it extend over the TV. : )
More about that Blue Dresser here and here
Let’s turn a little more to the right. Obviously the firs thing you will notice is the adorable kids! ; ) Next that there is absolutely nothing covering the windows! This is something I’m dying to do immediately. One because it needs it, two because everyone who walks by can see our entire house! A girl needs some privacy. I also need some decorative pillows huh? Fabric stash raid coming soon! And obviously I will be hanging things on the wall! Sadly it has been about 2 years since I have hung anything on a wall. Probably because this is our 4th move in 2 years and there just really wasn’t much of a point in decorating for such short periods of time!
If you turn all the way around you will see the front door and my new super awesome upright piano. More furniture from our awesome friends! Yay for free stuff! What do you think of the decor on the piano? I was thinking of leaving it like that? Ok, fine… not really. I can’t lie to you like that ; ) I have some big plans for that piano during the holidays though! Oh yes I do! Ok, see that doorway on the right… let’s walk through there.
Walking through and to the right is the kitchen. This kitchen and I had a fight… a fight with bleach. I swear whoever lived here before me lived off bacon and friend chicken! This was a foreclosure so it wasn’t exactly “clean”. It did have new carpet and paint, but the kitchen was another story! I have scrubbed, tried everything and the cabinets are still sticky. So you guessed it. Kitchen makeover coming really really soon. I will be painting these cabinets before the winter! I’ll also be adding some trim and there will be a tutorial for that! Ok let’s turn around and look at one of my favorite rooms.
This is our second living area. I think I’m going to call it the den… although den’s are usually “secluded” It’s not really a family room because there is no tv, and it’s where my computer is. What would you call it? Well, no matter what it is called… this paneling will be painted! I’m trying to limit my major projects… and I think that rather than tearing it all out, I am really going to like how it looks painted. Then I’m planning on some kind of color on the other wall. Still looking for that perfect color though. I would also LOVE to have a new dining room table soon. Maybe I’ll just build one. We are going to need at least one more spot soon for Mr. Adam! Window treatments are obviously another must in this room!
And just to give you a shot of this whole area. I love this the most because I have my white couches… which I love! Where we eat, and where I cook… a mom’s most used rooms! We recently had our entire small group over from church and this is where everyone hung out. It was great for having people over! If I had the time, I would just sit on those couches and relax every once in a while. But I’ll just blog about it instead!
So there you have it. Part 1 of the House Tour (before). I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally have a house that I can paint and do whatever I want to do to it! I have so many projects in my future I can’t even keep them straight. I think I will be focusing on the rooms I shared with you today though since that is what is seen the most!

I would extend those kitchen cabinets around the corner by the door and end them at the door and move the peninsula closer to where the dining table currently is, and then create and office/dining area in the rest of the space.
On another note… our formal living room is called the cave and then the family room is what we call the living room… my oldest daughter started calling it the cave when she was in a huge backyardigans phase, and it stuck! lol and the tv show is Kipper right?

We had a super greasy kitchen and my mom told me to use isopropyl alcohol and it was amazing! It was just my stove microwave though so you might want to test it on wood first…

Wow, I see sooo much potential here. I bet it’s going to look great! I’m liking those white couches. I make slipcovers for mine. Can’t wait to click around and see your progress.

Thanks so much Jessica! It is definitely a slow work in progress! Maybe I’ll get a lot done this winter : )
