My oldest child is going to be 10 this year! 10! That’s double digits guys! I still can’t believe it. Do you ever look at your kids and think to yourselves that there’s no way you could be old enough to have a kid that’s older than what you feel fits? Most days I still feel like a brand new parent who has no clue what she’s doing. But apparently no matter how hard I’ve tried you just can’t turn back the wheels to infancy. So here I find myself designing a room for an almost 10 year old who doesn’t want toys anymore! Hold me!
My son hasn’t fallen far from the tree. His favorite colors are black and gray. I’m not sure where he gets his love of no color, but it’s certainly not me ; ) ; )! When we bought our Utah house we knew we would be finishing the basement for our kids to have bigger rooms. Right now my two boys are sharing a 10×10 room, and my oldest is definitely a kid who needs his own space if he’s having a rough moment. Those moments aren’t super rare so needless to say we are excited to give him the space he needs as he approaches his pre teen years!
When I started making plans for my kids’ bedrooms I really wanted them to have some input on how we would decorate them. This was a big step for me cause some might say I’m a control freak! I looked around on Pinterest with my two older kids and showed them pictures of different styles, colors, and ways we could decorate their rooms. My daughter is very opinionated, but I had to dig a little bit to really figure out what my son wanted! Ultimately he seemed to be drawn to the industrial style so that’s what we went with. I jumped on board that train immediately because I love almost anything industrial!
Overall I really wanted a clean, minimalist look because my son doesn’t seem to like all the fluff. I’m hoping for lots of hidden storage, clean lines and a very distinct palette. I hope he loves what I’ve come up with for him! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! And soon I’ll be sharing my daughter’s room plans with you, while I’m sure will be absolutely adorable, is a little out of my comfort zone with lots of colors!

Lol, sorry, been there done that. I had 3 kids in 4 yrs. then 6 yrs. later had 4th.with new husband. She was never just our baby, she was the kids first, then ours. The boys taught her to read, her numbers and how to print between 3-4yrs.old. They were such good siblings. Have to say she was hardest kid, going into her teens when I was in early 30’s and already in menopause after having hysterectomy at 31. Preteen years, she was not an easy child, mouthy, superior attitude, etc. There were days I would find something to do instead of going home from work. My disposition left a lot to be desired am sure. My poor husband, between menopausal wife, then having a bratty preteen, is a miracle we stayed together. Still are tho, will be 49 years Nov.30th. Thank you dear. We lived in San Diego area then.
Looks like your son’s room will be pretty grand for him, is he good about keeping his things picked up? When my boys were in early teens I went to put their clean underwear away and was nipped by a horny toad in a drawer. Surprise Mom,lol.
Enjoy your kids cause you only get one chance to enjoy them being kids, bad enuf babyhood goes by so quickly. My kids are now 57, soon to be 55, 53 and 47. I want my babies back. We won’t talk about teen years ok?
Have great rest of week
