Every since we have moved into this house there has been this corner in my living room that just stares me down. My living room is a normal rectangle, nothing super weird about it, but for some reason it’s awkward to decorate. Do you have a space like that? I originally hung my corner gallery wall which I loved, but it left the room feeling a little lopsided. It stayed there for a while, and then eventually I took down half of it and left up the side with the clock. This helped some, it also helped when I got rid of the awful peachy tan color and painted it Sherwin Williams’ Worldly Gray. I have toyed with the idea of putting a chair there, but never found that perfect piece. Now with my new Sauder chair, I have : )
One thing I knew was that my clock would stay. I love it there. It’s something about the greige walls and white curtains next to the distressed wood… it makes my heart sing! I was a little skeptical about not having arms on this chair, but now I’m a believer! It’s very comfortable to sit in and my husband loves to play guitar in this spot now. He says it’s the perfect guitar chair since it doesn’t have arms ; ) Silly musicians, lol!
We’ve established that this space is a little awkward. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but it has something to do with the spacing. It’s like I can’t get things close enough to each other without looking weird and leaving giant holes. Originally I wanted to put a small table next to the chair, but it just wasn’t working next to the couch. After changing my mind a million times I finally saw this old suitcase tucked in a corner that I wasn’t currently using and decided to use it as a side table. It was perfect! I feel like this always happens when I’m trying to style a space! I try and try and then eventually God reveals this beam of light down on what I’m actually supposed to do. I like to think of it as a little reminder that I can do NOTHING without him! Not even pick a side table ; )
I’m not really a “bold” person when it comes to decorating. I like to stick with neutrals.. and when I say neutrals, I mean white. We all know how I feel about white. I know, this chair is gray, it’s not like it’s a bright blue or hot pink, but with the pattern it’s a bold choice for me since I tend to stick with solids.
The nailhead trim brings in that rustic earthiness to the chair that I’m always looking for. It’s a great contrast to the pattern and makes it feel a little more cozy!
So what do you think of my new chair? Do you love it in this space? I’m almost finished making some updates to my living room because my style changes with the weather, haha (but really though)! I do finally feel like I’m figuring out where I want this house to go. We’ve moved so much and I never hung anything on my walls in rentals because we weren’t there long enough, so I feel a bit like when we moved here I had decorator’s turrets and tried to cram 5 years of decorating into this past year. I’ve always leaned towards a little rustic, a little cottage, some vintage, and a small amount of industrial. Lately I’m drawn to this Rustic Industrial vibe with some coziness thrown in for good measure. My Master Bedroom I recently finished is the first place in our house I feel is truly “me”.
