Summer is in full swing and we are taking full advantage in Wisconsin. Whenever it gets hot I start craving certain things and next to grilling, it’s always fresh fruit! I thought it would be fun to make a drink that could work for our whole family and decided to make a pitcher of fresh margarita limeade that when mixed with tequila gives you the perfect Fresh Watermelon Margarita!
Fresh Watermelon Limeade
Like I said this recipe is for a whole pitcher of fresh Watermelon Limeade that your kids can drink, but when you add a shot of tequila it becomes the perfect adult beverage. Let’s start making some! So even though it takes some time to make this recipe, just remember you’ll get multiple drinks out of it. It’s the perfect party drink since people can mix their own.
How to Make a Fresh Watermelon Margarita
To begin making fresh margaritas you will need to get both fresh watermelon and lime juice. This is the time consuming part, but man the taste will be SO worth it!
Homemade Honey Simple Sryup
For this recipe I used a homemade simple syrup to sweeten the juice. I always try to avoid directly giving my kids sugar, so the honey option is a more healthy alternative! Typically simple syrup is 1 c. water 1 c. sugar. However honey has a pretty distinct flavor so I didn’t want to go with the full cup and decided to only use a 1/2 c. of honey.

Ingredients
4 Cups of Fresh Watermelon Juice
1 cup of Simple Syrup (Honey & Water)
1 Cup Fresh Lime Juice (about 10 limes)
Fresh Mint
Lime Slice for Garnish
Instructions
Use a blender to make 4 cups of fresh watermelon juice. Simply cut it into cubes and blend until all that remains is juice.
Make simple syrup by heating up 1 cup of water and 1/2 honey in a small saucepan until honey is dissolved. Do not bring to a boil.
Juice approx. 10 limes until you get 1 cup of lime juice.
Combine Fresh Watermelon Juice, Simply Syrup, Fresh Lime Juice in a pitcher, stir. You can add ice if you prefer.
Add 6 ounces of the combined juice and 1 shot of tequila to a drink shaker filled with ice and shake until cold, pour over ice.
Garnish with lime wedge and fresh mint
Notes
You can add more lime juice to taste
Serve without alcohol for a virgin margarita
