I can’t believe we are in our new house! Normally when we buy a house we tend to pick a fixer upper that needs some work. After searching for a while we found there’s not a whole lot of opportunity in the Salt Lake area for those types of homes, so we decided on a newer build with an unfinished basement. Since this house is mostly builder grade quality there will be plenty to upgrade and change to fit our style with time. One of the main things I want to change on the main level is the kitchen. It’s a very open floor plan so the kitchen is visible from pretty much every spot in the house. All of this was perfect timing when Delta Faucet reached out about an Inspired Design event. We got to tour their showroom in Chicago, tour the city, and chat with their amazing team members! It was such an amazing event full of inspiration! Today I’m going to walk you through my Modern Farmhouse Kitchen design plans inspired by their new Trinsic® Pro Single Handle Pull-Down Spring Spout Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O® Technology (see the details here).

I changed up my design a little bit after attending the event, because I actually moved in to our house afterwards. Just a few minor adjustments though. Before we dive into the design decisions, here’s a look at the inspiration board I created in Chicago with Delta.
During our event in Chicago, Delta took us on a tour of a few architectural highlights throughout the city where we were able to draw inspiration. It was such an amazing afternoon! Let’s take a look…. Our first stop was probably my favorite place of the whole day – the Chicago Cultural Center. This was such a gorgeous space, and they had a dome that was just absolutely stunning; while everyone was looking up, I noticed this little elevator tucked away in the corner. I have a thing for overlooked spaces. There is just such beauty in the detail of this design. Why, oh why, do they not make things like this anymore??
My next favorite stop on the tour was Aqua Tower. This building was beautifully designed by an architect who saw past the busy city and decided to incorporate nature into her design. For me, this was the inspiration for our countertops. I’m actually torn between concrete and quartz countertops. Concrete is something I’ve always wanted, but it’s a time and labor intensive process and we are pretty busy with my husband back in school and both of us working full time. With these factors I’m leaning more towards a quartz with the look of concrete. What are your thoughts?
We also stopped by this amazing building called The Rookery. This staircase!! I couldn’t stop staring!! This particular location inspired my two toned cabinet idea. I’ll be honest, white kitchens will always have my heart, but the hubs doesn’t fully agree. He can’t stand having white cabinets because they show dirt easier, especially since we have three little ones and a dog who touch everything they pass (yes, the dog too!). I get his reasoning, but it doesn’t entirely change my mind. I did agree to do a dark gray (almost black, just like the picture below) on the lower cabinets, and a white upper cabinet. I’m honestly pretty excited about it, but cabinet color will honestly be the last thing we do since they are in really good shape.
One of those most unexpected places we visited was Buckingham Fountain. I’ll admit I was a little disappointed when they informed us the water had been turned off for the winter, but once we got there it was such an awesome opportunity to look at the work underneath. You don’t always get to see the things that make beauty possible. The piping and industrial aspects of the fountain were absolutely breathtaking! Not necessarily in what one might consider the stereotype of beauty, but a beauty from within. You know I will have some piping in our Modern Farmhouse kitchen soon ; )
I hope you enjoyed this little mini tour. It really doesn’t do it justice though… if you are ever in Chicago, take the time to enjoy the architecture!
Just to hopefully keep myself on track, here is a list of the things we will do. I’ll try and keep it in order, but I’m sure things will change and I’ll update this list with links as we make the changes!

I am loving that pretty dish you used on the counter for your soap and sponge. I am looking for something exactly like that for my kitchen. No luck so far. Where did you find that piece? Thank you!
