5 Tips for a Cozy Fall Home using Textiles

Use these 5 Easy tips to create a Cozy Fall Home using textiles for texture throughout your home decor.

We walked outside to leave for school yesterday and it was the first morning where there was a real chill in the air. I’m not exactly pulling out the jackets yet, but I am starting to pull out the Fall Decor. If you follow me on Instagram I’ve been talking about this for a few days now… and it’s officially time to get started! I’m teaming up with some lovely ladies and we are all sharing our tips and tricks for using Textiles to help create a Cozy Fall Home. At the bottom of today’s post you will be able to visit each of the other ladies for their specific ideas on Fall Decor Using Textiles, and you won’t want to miss a single one!

Let’s dive into my 5 favorite ways to Add Texture to my Fall Decor.

Using Throw Pillows for Fall Decor

One of the very first things I do when adding Fall Decor to our home is pull out all my throw pillows and determine what I want to use. You can also purchase pillow covers at affordable prices (I’m sharing some examples below). Another option is the clearance section at places like Home Goods to pick up a few extras pillows if you don’t have many or want some new options.

When selecting throw pillows for Fall, I typically go neutral. And sometimes I like to throw in some Fall colors as well. For me it’s really more about texture. I like to have heavy texture in the colder seasons because it feels more cozy. I also like to mix in light neutrals with some darker options! This is why I always lean more neutral. I feel like I can mix and match throughout the seasons and get completely different looks.

Blankets Create a Cozy Fall Vibe

Blankets and throws come right after pillows. To be honest when I think of Fall the first thing that comes to mind is snuggling up on the couch with a warm drink… which almost always includes a warm blanket and a pillow!

Again I like to stick to neutrals and alternate between light and dark colors with an occasional Fall color thrown in. In particular I really gravitate towards greens and mustards when using colors. Obviously you can use whatever color suits your personality, but I definitely feel like moody tones creates a Fall vibe without having to buy Fall specific decor.

The dog is an optional use of textiles ;). Sometimes he does double as a rug when his hair gets long, haha!

Unique Textiles in Fall Tablescapes

I’m not sure why I’ve developed this love for Fall Tablescapes, but I 100% have. If I’m being totally honest we don’t eat that many fancy meals, but whenever we do it just feels like the season has begun! One of my favorite ways to kick off the Fall season is to decorate the table and have a nice sit down meal. Those decorations don’t stay out all Fall… but if we invite friends over I can easily recreate the tablescape!

Our table is very dark so I like to break up the tones and use a runner to brighten things up. A while back I started using blankets and scarves for runners because they serve multiple purposes when they aren’t being used on the table. A table runner can only be used for tables… but a scarf you can wear…. after washing of course ;)

Scarfs for Fall Decor

Change out Rugs for Fall Decor

Rugs can make all the difference in a vibe for your home. Choosing darker rugs during the Fall can give you that moody vibe, and then using lighter colors in the summer brighten up the space. I love this red rug in our kitchen, which I’ve actually used since we remodeled it. But to be honest I’ll probably change it out pretty soon.

Another good option for Fall rugs is just going with earthy tones like the one we used in our kitchenette. Both of these options work year round… but moving them to different spaces can make all the difference!

Using Textiles in Fall Decor

Let’s talk about using textiles that aren’t necessarily straight forward like pillows and throws. For example using these velvet pumpkins on our tablescape really provided a cozy, intimate setting. And when you aren’t using them on your table you can easily move them to a shelf as we get further into the season and closer to Thanksgiving! But the texture of these pumpkins really helps bring other decor together providing a nice contrast from other things you typically use on shelves.
