Take a before tour of this historic home’s dining room and see how it will be transformed to a beautiful Classic Modern Dining Room!
It’s official, I’m doing another One Room Challenge! I did my very first one last Fall for my daughter’s bedroom and it was amazing! I loved it! Then this Spring we completely renovated my mom’s Kitchenette. And for this season… I will be doing a Classic Modern Dining Room! You can follow along on Instagram Stories to watch all the shenanigans and inevitable fails. I’m giving myself a little bit of a head start this time though considering I don’t have to rip out or replace any sheetrock. No crazy wall treatments or excessive DIY projects. But it’s ok… there will still be plenty of projects to keep me busy!
Before I share the plans I wanted to show you what this space looked like when we first moved in.
Historic Home – Dining Room Before Pictures

This paint color was seriously the most depressing paint color. It has nothing to do with being dark, I like dark walls. I love black. This was just the WORST shade… or tone… I can’t quite put my finger on it, but painting this space made a world of difference! It doesn’t look as bad in the pictures as it was in real life! It was very dirty feeling.
I’m sure I’ll catch some negativity about painting our wood trim. But let’s talk about that!
First, I think that everyone has the right to do what they want with their house. I also think they have the right not to be spoken to rudely because of it. I’ve seen lots of things on IG that I don’t like… but do I spend my time telling them I don’t like it??… NOPE! Rather than choosing the path of negativity I encourage you to find something you DO like and leave a comment for those people because we all need a little extra encouragement sometimes! Deal??

Second, our wood trim was not in the best condition. It would’ve needed to be professionally restored. If you would like to throw a couple grand at me, well I might reconsider. Ok fine… I probably wouldn’t because my eyes just crave white trim and I’m not sorry about it. ;)

Classic Modern Dining Room Design Plans
Ok lets talk design plans, and then I will give you the overall plan!

I’m going for a very simple, minimalist look. Our house is laid out so that when you enter this room through the entryway it opens right up into our dining/living room. It’s all one long space, and since our fireplace is my focal point of this space, I don’t want the dining room to compete with that.
I’m not entirely sure I will use this table and chairs. I really want to. However, I do technically have a table, but I want these oh so badly! We’ll see how all that pans out.

Now let’s see what the plan is. This will likely change, but it’s the plan for now :)

Yay, can’t wait to see your next ORC!! This is going to be so pretty, what a beautiful, character-rich room!
This looks so great! What a lovely room! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do!
Your work gives immensely positive energy!! Good Job
Hi Ashley, I love big rooms with lots of windows! I take it the fireplace is on the end with the bay window?? Where is the kitchen from this room? I think it is totally your choice whether to paint or not, do what you think is best.
If I had to describe your style it would be earthy minimalist with a bend to industrial. The chairs and lighting you picked out fit but I don’t know about that table….hmm. Keep an open mind, I’ve liked everything makeover you’ve done so have at it girl!
Yes Ashley, I agree with you. If you want the trim painted white that’s what I would do. Do whatever you think is right. I love what you’re doing and can hardly wait to see the next part! Regina xo
I think painting the trim is the perfect plan for your dining room! I look forward to watching your plans come to life.
What paint colors did you use?
Beautiful! I LOVE your wall colour choice – what colour is it?
It’s called Sherwin Williams Reserved White
This is a stunning room layout. With it, you can make a fantastic dining room. On the Internet, there are many good ideas on how to diversify your interior. Here https://thehousemode.com/best-dining-room-paint-colors-ideas/ is a great article on this topic, I took a note of the ideas
I like the classic design of this room. I’m looking forward to seeing the full furniture design.
